In delivering on the true Star Trek experience, we definitely wanted to put the player in a role on the bridge. Why did you choose those two characters and what can you tell us about these Starfleet Officers?ĭan Martin: From early on in our development process, we envisioned Star Trek: Resurgence as having multiple POVs split across the "upper decks" and "lower decks" of a starship. Players can play as two main characters, First Officer Jara Rydeck and Carter Diaz from Engineering. So they should get out their technical manuals and Ships of the Line reference material and get sleuthing. While we’re not ready to tell more about the ship at this time, I will say that eagle-eyed fans will definitely spot some familiar structures, and some not-so-familiar elements as well. What type of starship is the USS Resolute?ĭan Martin: The trailer shows a few glimpses of the Resolute. Trekkers are very into the classes and specifications of starships. Setting Star Trek: Resurgence between Star Trek: Nemesis and the events surrounding the Romulan supernova (most recently seen in Picard ) gave us the space to do just that. Additionally, it was important to us to still have connections to the great stories that have come before. My personal journey as a fan began with the films with the original cast, and The Next Generation so I know that period had a bit of extra gravity pulling in that direction.īut more importantly, we wanted to find some uncharted territory of our own so that we could tell a story where the outcomes were not dictated by events players have already seen on-screen. And everyone has their own definition of what “classic Trek ” means to them. In truth, we could have set this game in just about any era and found compelling stories to tell. Why did you pick that particular timeframe and era instead of, say, Kirk’s 23rd century, or Star Trek: Discovery’s 32nd century?ĭan Martin: In the roughly 55 years since it first went on the air, the Star Trek universe has grown into an incredibly rich tapestry. Resurgence is set after the end of Star Trek: The Next Generation. That means commanding the bridge, building camaraderie with your fellow crew, exploring new planets, uncovering mystery, stealth, and combat, and, of course taking you on a thrilling ride where you drive the story. What were the key aspects of Star Trek that you felt had to be translated into the game?ĭan Martin: We wanted to give a broad Star Trek experience that puts the player in the heart of the action, and all that entails like they are the star of their favorite feature film or TV show from the franchise. Screen Rant: Star Trek: Resurgence sounds incredibly exciting. Screen Rant interviewed Cinematic Director Kent Mudle and Lead Writer Dan Martin all about the development of Star Trek: Resurgence, why they chose to set the game in the post- Star Trek: Nemesis/TNG era, and what type of gameplay and story players and Trekkers can expect.
